Don't Frown Over Smile Lines: Let Us Help You Banish Them

At first glance, smile lines might sound pleasant. They’re a sign you’ve been smiling, after all. But as these nasolabial folds deepen, they can make you look older. Lines that once only looked pronounced after a good laugh might start to add stark contrast to your face.
If your smile lines have you frowning in the mirror, we’re here to help. Douglas R. Grogan, MD, Jennifer Hall DiFalco, MD, and our team at Bethel Family Medicine have decided to offer cosmetic care.
Our very own Susan Andrea, FNP, offers free cosmetic injectable consultations to help you decide what’s best for you based on your unique aesthetic goals.
We have a couple of treatment options that can help you banish those smile lines.
Injectable treatment for smile lines
You have a range of options for addressing smile lines, from low-lift ones like over-the-counter creams to high-intensity choices like surgery. Fortunately, our team presents options that fall somewhere in the middle.
These cosmetic injectables work much more effectively than anything you can buy in the store, but they don’t come with the extensive recovery of surgical treatment.
Specifically, Susan Andrea offers two different cosmetic injectables to help with smile lines.
#1: Wrinkle relaxers
Options like Botox® and Xeomin® work by temporarily freezing the muscle underneath the wrinkle. In the case of your smile lines, this causes the muscles under your nasolabial folds to relax. This causes the skin to smooth out, too.
#2: Fillers
If you want to maintain mobility in all the muscles in the lower portion of your face, Susan Andrea also offers dermal fillers—these work by adding volume into the crease of your smile line, smoothing it.
Here at Bethel Family Medicine, we offer fillers like Radiesse® and Juvéderm®.
Finding the right smile line treatment for you
Our team works with you to determine if wrinkle relaxers or fillers are better for your face shape, skin type, and cosmetic goals.
With both of these smile line treatment options, you don’t need to worry about extensive treatment time or downtime afterward.
Once you and Susan Andrea agree to a plan, the injection process takes just minutes. You can go about your day immediately after, although you might have slight redness at the injection site. Many people choose to get treatment in the afternoon and head home afterward.
The results from wrinkle relaxers usually last a few months. Fillers can last six months to a year, depending on the type you choose. Whenever the smile lines start to return, you can pop back into our office for a quick touchup treatment.
